Government accepts finite failing on Equitable
The British government has accepted findings of maladministration and injustice in the way the regulatory authorities allowed Equitable Life to use an inappropriate and insufficient finite reinsurance-style financing arrangement to prop up its reserving as the life provider struggled to cope with a lack of provision for guaranteed annuity business in the late 1990s.
