Names lose out against Treasury
In the UK case Poole v HM Treasury, writes Aidan Christie QC, a barrister at 4 Pump Court Chambers, some 1,000 Lloyd’s names alleged their losses at Lloyd’s, said to total more than £1bn ($2.02bn), were caused by the British government failing to implement a European directive related to insurance and were thus recoverable from the government as damages for what is sometimes called a "Eurotort".
