Insurance cover low for Sumatra quake
Although a national earthquake insurance pool—MAIPARK—was established in Indonesia in 2003, and is mandatory for non-life insurers and reinsurers, earthquake insurance penetration remains very low in the country, according to Bingming Shen-Tu, principal scientist at Massachusetts-based catastrophe modeller AIR Worldwide.
