Market shrugs off 2008 hit to capital
At a global level, the reinsurance industry lost about 15% to 18% of its total shareholders’ funds last year but the industry’s strength before the financial crisis started to bite in earnest and reinsurers’ risk management practices helped the market to weather the storm and emerge in 2009 with an almost optimistic outlook.
