Earthquake losses rise up historical rankings
Catastrophe losses across the Asia Pacific region accounted for more than two-thirds of 2011’s $100bn-plus insurance bill, with current loss estimates from the year’s two major insured events – the Tohoku and Canterbury earthquakes – revealing they are set to become the first- and third-most costly quakes on record respectively.
