Australian court rules on rating agency liability for investor losses
Eyes will increasingly be trained on ratings agencies for their part in the financial crisis after the Australian Federal Court became the first to rule on their liability for investor losses. On November 5, Justice Jagot ordered Standard & Poor’s (S&P), the issuing bank and Local Government Financial Services (LGFS) to pay A$30m ($31.2m) in damages to several Australian local governments.
