Congress examines NY Fed chair’s share deal
THE US House of Representatives oversight committee is looking into a stock purchase that former New York Fed chairman Stephen Friedman made in investment bank Goldman Sachs during the height of the financial crisis in late 2008, shortly after the Fed told troubled insurer AIG to pay obligations in full rather than at a discount to Goldman and other counterparties to credit default swaps sold by AIG Financial Products.
